We recommend the use of AUXILIARY NURSE MIDWIVES to deliver the following interventions, with targeted monitoring and evaluation: Administration of antihypertensives for severe high blood pressure in pregnancy
Notes and Remarks
- 1.Monitoring and evaluation should focus on adherence to clinical protocols and the potential harms of antihypertensives for the mother and baby.
- 2.We suggest that this intervention be evaluated where auxiliary nurse midwives are already an established cadre, in an acute context prior to referral, and by following a standard protocol.
- 3.Planners need to consider a number of issues when shifting tasks from one health worker cadre to another. These include the distribution of roles among cadres, regulatory issues, stakeholder involvement, training and supervision, systems for referral, supply chains, and possible changes to payments or other incentives
