Recommendation

Status
Retired

Recommended in favor

Strong

For resource-limited countries and other middle-income countries that do not belong to the above category (according to existing and valid WHO guidelines) (5,6):

  • People living with HIV and children below 5 years of age who are household or close contacts of

people with TB and who, after an appropriate clinical evaluation, are found not to have active TB but have latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) should be treated

Notes and Remarks

Testing and treatment of LTBI should adhere to strict human rights and the highest ethical considerations. For example, positive test results or status of treatment for LTBI should not affect a person’s immigration status or delay the ability to immigrate. For people living with HIV and child contacts below 5 years of age, the existing WHO guidelines should be consulted (5,6).
