In multidrug-resistant TB or isoniazid-resistant, rifampicin-resistant TB patients on longer regimens, the performance of sputum culture in addition to sputum smear microscopy is recommended to monitor treatment response. It is desirable for sputum culture to be repeated at monthly intervals.
