In HIV-infected adults, adolescents and children diagnosed with severe symptomatic Kaposi sarcoma, immediate ART initiation in combination with systemic chemotherapy is recommended.
Notes and Remarks
- 1)Chemotherapy can also be considered if KS is progressive despite ART.
- 2)Whenever feasible, suspected KS lesions should be biopsied and diagnosis confirmed, especially before administration of chemotherapy.
- 4)All patients should be monitored for potential development of KS IRIS after ART initiation.
- 5)Chemotherapy drugs, especially those administered during the first trimester of pregnancy, may cause serious adverse fetal effects.
