HIV-infected children and adults with mild seborrhoeic dermatitis (including on the scalp) should be treated with topical ketoconazole 2% two to three times per week for four weeks, with a maintenance treatment once per week as needed.
Notes and Remarks
- 1)Mid- to high-potency topical corticosteroids can be used in combination with other medications (antifungals such as ketoconazole) but should be reserved for short-term therapy in severe seborrhoeic dermatitis or flare. Treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis on sensitive areas such as the face should be limited to low-potency agents, whenever possible.
